Margot (nee Munro)

Peacefully, thanks to the exceptional care of the Margaret Kerr Unit, Melrose Margot Wallace Shields on January 17 aged 91.

Born in Baghdad in September 1934 the elder daughter of Jenny and Kenneth Munro and raised there and in Basra, she always thought of Iraq as “home” despite being fiercely proud of her Highland Munro and Cameron heritage. Educated in Bridge of Allan and Edinburgh, after marrying John in 1956 she returned to the Middle East for several more postings before settling back in the UK first in Cheshire, then Ayrshire and since 1995 in Melrose. Margot had a long and happy marriage, was an adored mother of Jenny and Mary, treasured mother-in-law of Gordon and Fin and the cherished grandma of Cameron.

A keen follower of current affairs, an exceptional needlewoman and a devoted cat lover she enjoyed a happy, well-travelled and fulfilled life. A private family funeral will take place shortly.
